Above and Below

Hi friends
Sometimes all I know is that which is above my head and below my feet.
Today is interesting.  Tomorrow is still an idea and Yesterday is gone and done.

Times are a changing... and I am hopeful for good.  The space between now and August has been long and short-- mostly winding, full of seeking and learning.

I am still learning... and seeking.  You too?  I hope so.

Here are some places to see what I have been making and doing:
Winter Stitch (The love mitts on pg 2 of the table of contents)
Holiday Fat Quarterly (Issue 11-- Art quiver!)

I am so pleased to be counted in such talented company. So many great projects for your holiday crafting!  Happy.

See you round- sooner rather than later.  I am sure of it.

It is all about perspective..

We have been gifted in our neighborhood with a BEAUTIFUL bike/pedestrian bridge over to our River bike path system. Now, when the level of crazy hits TILT, I can get everyone outside and we have a safe walking destination (we live in a no sidewalk neighborhood= heart attacks for this momma.)

My perspective changes outdoors, as does theirs. It is not nearly as dark an dreary during the winter here, if you can make it outside. Then, this day, I was able to practice "good sharing techniques" and I let each of the boys take some pictures with the iTouch. I am so glad that I did. I now have my memory of the fun walk last Sunday, coupled with the fun pictures that we all took.
Brownie loves the ominous abilities of the Lenses app...
so spooky!

Blondie loves the pocketbooth app. Maybe it is more pictures per turn, I don't know, but I love seeing what he sees.
Myself, I like to just use what I have... my Rebel, to capture a tiny reader.
or the iTouch camera to quickly snap an attempt to outrun the hail storm.... We were not fast enough. We did laugh a lot though. Perspective. If it is not working for you, try and change it up. That is my helpful word for this week!

P.S.
Hopefully, I can overcome my sewing inertia and get some stuff together tonight. Whenever Big Daddy is on a trip I either sew up a storm OR I watch WAY TOO much Tivo...I am hoping to switch to the sewing!

Chasing my tail...

Peeks of a new project... a tutorial in the works perhaps
The neighborhood is getting some closure (I'm a-gonna quilt it, yes I am!),
Afternoon sun shining, shining those winter blahs away.

and these... I am just getting LOST on flickr so much lately. The eye candy there has been eating up time that I could be using for my beauty sleep.

At the end of a week, I wonder where all the time in the days goes to. The children, our home, take up a lot of it, but also the back of my mind is processing something, some kind of change of self, of my sense of my self. A shift in how I have been thinking of things, of time, and of what I am capable of. It isn't just one thing, but a bunch of things that have occurred over the past year(s). Seeing the children growing and striving, mortality, doing things that I have thought were REALLY scary... these are all changing me. They probably have always been changing me, but I feel like I am coming up to one of those HUGE developmental jumps that kids have, like when you learn to walk or talk. It feels kind of weird, kinda good, but also weird. I wonder what it will be, and who I will be.

I read a quote today on a "new to me" blog and I like it, I like a lot.
"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." ~Theodore Roosevelt

It resonates with where I am today and truthfully how I want to live. The last few months have been "interesting", a contrast in sorrow and wonderfulness. I have been trying to just see what the day will bring, and also to make myself available to the opportunities that might come along. It is kinda working. The less tightly I am squeezing something, the more I am able to see how it is able to unfurl, and then what to make of it.
Well, it makes sense to me.

Be careful of what you find on flickr... a picture of a collection of red objects could change the way you look at the world, or not

Simple Gifts

I listened to the most amazing song this morning. Brenda Dayne gifted it to me.
It reminded me of earlier this week when I took a walk around the yard with my camera.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy May day!

Sometimes the pictures are not so much about the image,
but the memory they prompt,
the feeling they provoke, the space in time that they capture.

Happy May day!

Touching...

I was going to write about something else today... I don't know what, but not this. I have missed the writing, looking through my pictures, finding something to say that is just for me.

Have you heard of Photojojo? I get their e-newsletters and more often than not they have something cool to share about photography and digital art. Today their "news" was about Richard Renaldi and a project he did about touching. I am interested in photographing people and seeing the "them" in the picture. It is something that I haven't done much of, but would like to. I also have always been a bit touch-phobic. I am not sure why, but I feel more comfortable with a large "body bubble" and I don't like "close talkers" and acquaintances who insist on hugging. Having children was a major breakthrough for me. They don't really acknowledge those kinds of personal space limits. My kids have helped me to feel OK about people being in my space and touching me.

BACK to this project... he asks strangers to take a portrait together with the caveat that they must touch in some way. When I read that I was, at once repulsed and intrigued. I went and looked at his pictures and WOW... I found them quite striking and thought provoking. I also found myself wondering which of the people in the pictures knew each other beforehand and which were the stranger, what they thought of the project, taboos about touching. I am sure I will think about it much more.

I like that. Hope it makes you think too.
