Peas...oops, I go on a rant.

Yum, let's do it again...
I think that summer (whisper) may have arrived here... and not a moment too soon.

I have been trying to untangle all of my garlic from the bind weed that I DESPISE...but the only way to be rid of it is to let the ground lie fallow with black plastic for 2+ years....I just can't do it. I don't have enough land. So, I am left with manually fighting them every year, but I do love my garden!

After seeing my nutty neighbor spraying (I am pretty sure with some variety of Round-up) a 2 inch weed in his vast expanse of bark today...I think that I am going to lose it. He could have just bent down and plucked it out. He doesn't need to add more pollutants to his OVER-FERTILIZED, OVER-HERBICIDED compound.

(Rant start) HELLO---We need to stop using all of these disgusting chemicals all around our bodies and then wondering why people are getting weird auto-immune diseases, cancers, and allergies. It is probably not as simple as that, but it really sickens me to watch MULTITUDES of people out "doing" their yard with the 2 gallon spray bottle of napalm, when all they need to do is get down and PULL THE WEEDY BUGGERS OUT BY THEIR ROOTS!!!

I will leave for another post how this same neighbor gets up on his roof EVERY OTHER DAY to blow off whatever detritus might have fallen in 48 hours....since he cut down 80% of his trees I don't even know what detritus there is left to fall on his roof...

Yes, that is for another post... Maybe if I get really passive-aggressive I can blow dandelion seeds over the fence to spoil his bark and grass patch... but that really isn't the kind of gal I am, but sometimes I wish it was.

I SO hear you and am in complete support of any dastardly plans you have to blow dandelion seeds across your fence - in fact, I'll send you some oxalis - they're a nightmare. I once heard one of Australia's most eminent gardening experts say the only way to get rid of oxalis was to dig up your garden and concrete it. I only have to hear chain saws and blowers and I began to froth around the mouth. I cannot even begin to comprehend why people cut down their trees, and water their concrete paths, and let their children poison the lawn in barefeet, spraying in front of them as they walk forward - oh don't get me started. Ahhhh Jessica - what shall we do with them ...

sounds like your neighbor needs a hobby...
maybe you should introduce him to quilting...

I remember that neighbor! He is still at it, huh? Also, i can't stand this same over-usage of chemical on the lawns and gardens. I think most of that stuff is outlawed in Sweden for vegetation. They actually leave in the dandilions just mow them like grass, there's a thought. P.S. Ben is so cute. Rowan is obsessed with being naked constantly. Is is the summer of nakedness for Ben as well?

I have a similar neighbor who has nothing but grass in her yard. Every summer she brings out her weed killer and sprays all around the perimeter of the yard (with a long cigarette hanging out of her mouth). It's frustrating to see, especially when the rest of our neighbors are making a effort to go organic. I'd adivse against the dandelion seeds since he would likely just amp up the weed killer use.

I've finally come to terms with the bindweed. I mulch thickly and pull the shoots repeatedly as the season progresses until the other plants can shade it out. I can actually get into a groove pulling it up, but I do hate the smell of it esp. in the late summer.
